BAMBI - A Must to visit

The excitement of speeding along on a noisy river boat on the Chao Phraya river, the fascination of watching a snake being milked of its venom or a "tuc-tuc" ride are just a few of the experiences Bangkok has to offer both kids and adults.

Getting around the city is easy. Boats along the river, taxis, or the Skytrain - an air-conditioned elevated rail system which links the main areas of interest and gives great views over the city. If you want to know the city better buy a Nancy Chandler Map of Bangkok (available at bookshops in Bangkok, or see www.nancychandler.net - lovely colourful maps which give lots of information.

Bangkok offers enough food choices to please even the pickiest four year old. And when it gets too hot, retreat into one of the many an air-conditioned indoor playgrounds for kid's rides and computer games.

BAMBI was formed in 1982 when a small group of women who had been attending prenatal classes together in Bangkok decided to continue meeting once a month after their babies were born. Their general aim was to give the mothers of babies and young children support and friendship, and to help them with any problems that might arise from the sense of loneliness and isolation that sometimes comes from living in a large city such as Bangkok.

Mel Habanananada prepared the original group for natural childbirth and motivated them to meet and support each other after the birth of their babies. Mel consequently became the founder of BAMBI and she still takes an active interest as its patron.

Aims and Objectives:
BAMBI is a mother-led, non-profit group, offering support and companionship in the early years of parenthood. We hold monthly and weekly playgroups for babies and toddlers, organise Christmas parties, Bring & Buy Sales, a Summer playgroup, Splash parties, to mention just a few events. Our charities section is very active with a focus on helping other children in Bangkok. We also meet twice a month for discussions on breast-feeding and natural birth, support for which is difficult to come by in Bangkok. Visit their Web site here.
